If Nursing is your life. Here is what you need to know when traveling without baby.

Just like with anything in parenting this will be your unique journey, literally. Everything I am describing here is based on my personal experiences.

Do I need to pump to maintain my supply while traveling?

This will really depend on how old your baby is and how far along you are in your nursing life.. You might be surprised to hear that once nursing is established you don’t need to pump to maintain your supply. But no guarantees since every woman is different but I have solo traveled without pumping at 17 months with my first, and at 12 months with my second. I had only been gone for 3 nights but I’ve heard of women leaving their babies for a week and then returning to nursing without problems.

Will my baby still nurse when I return?

Every time I had been worried that my baby wouldn’t be interested in nursing anymore once I returned. But on both occasions they would just happily latch on again once I returned. Nursing is also way more enjoyable after you had some time to yourself!

Can I bring pumped breast milk through airport security?

Yes, you can. The question is just how you are going to keep breast milk cool or frozen. Mamava provides excellent recommendations.
